Letter from the ELADIS Board

Dear Members of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging,

The European Large Animal Diagnostic Imaging Society (ELADIS) was created during the EVDI annual meeting 2010 in Giessen. The objectives of ELADIS are directed towards the promotion and development of knowledge on large animal diagnostic imaging in veterinary medicine, research and education in Europe.

The ELADIS is organized exclusively for scientific and educational purposes as a financially non-profit Society. The ELADIS is sponsored by the ECVDI who provides administrative and communicative supports. Membership is encouraged from veterinarians from all disciplines who have an interest in large animal diagnostic imaging. Today, the ELADIS board has agreed on an annual membership fee of 20 euros, which will be used to fund large animal speakers, travel grants, and additional means of supporting meetings and other forms of continuing education. With the help of Lorrie Gaschen and Allison Zwingenberger, an ELADIS section has been developed in the EVDI website (http://www.ecvdi.org/eladis) and 35 members are today registered.

These first steps permit us to plan further developments to promote large animal diagnostic imaging, particularly:

  • ELADIS newsletter and website: will be used for posting continuing education items such as interesting cases, relevant bibliographic references and providing general information to the membership. The first ELADIS newsletter is in progress and should be available by the time of the EVDI London Conference. In the future, the objective will be to develop these sections with the help of an active group of members representing different European countries and both equine and farm animal imaging.
  • ELADIS travel award: funds collected through member registrations will be used to create a travel grant opened for individuals in training programmes or trying to enter imaging training programmes that wish to present an abstract at the next EVDI conference.
  • ELADIS development: the ELADIS has been presented to some veterinary societies and diagnostic imaging companies. In the next months, more veterinarian societies (ex: national equine/bovine veterinarian societies…) will be contacted to increase the number of ELADIS members. Private companies will also be invited to support the ELADIS. This would provide sufficient funds to organize in future EVDI meetings one ELADIS day with keynote speakers and abstracts.

The Large Animal Program on September 3, 2011 in London at the EVDI Annual Meeting with 21 oral abstracts on equine imaging topics and a keynote speaker (Dr. Tim Mair) offers the perfect opportunity to organize the ELADIS business meeting during lunch on that day. This meeting will also offer the opportunity for the Board to finalize the ELADIS constitution and to discuss developments towards a focused large animal imaging training program under the ECVDI.

Thanking you for supporting ELADIS

The ELADIS Board
