🧭 Tell us a bit about your path to becoming a radiologist.
I always loved the diagnostic part of case workups, and I wanted to specialise in clinical pathology when I finished vet school. During my internship year, a co-intern introduced me to the textbook “An Atlas of Interpretative Radiographic Anatomy” by Coulson & Lewis during my imaging rotation. The book opened my eyes to radiographic anatomy and things started to make sense to me. It was love at first site and I knew that this was the diagnostic field I wanted to pursue.
🩻 What is your practice and work day like?
I work as a remote clinical radiologist. I spend most of my time doing rapid reads of cross-sectional imaging and then reporting them, chatting to clinicians about their cases and digging out literature when I stumble across an interesting case. In between, I set time aside to read abstracts of one to two papers a day, preparing rounds for residents and interns and working on clinical workflow.
❤️🔥 Your favourite imaging modality? (And why?)
Oh, this is tough. I get bored quite easily and I like a varied caseload. I think I will always gravitate to ultrasound the most as it is such an interactive real-time modality for me. I love discussing cases with the clinicians during the ultrasound. I think it is amazing how the technology has advanced over the past decade, and it now gives us image resolution of structures we couldn’t visualize before.
🔮 How do you think veterinary radiology will change in 10 years?
I think we will have greater clarity on how AI will integrate as a tool for the veterinary radiologist. I also think there may be a shift in how we write reports, where reports will focus more on the human aspect and reports will put more emphasis on contextual imaging conclusions.
🕰️ What advice would you go back in time and give yourself when you were a resident?
Take a break after completing your residency and certifying exam.
🎉 What do you like to do for fun?
I play padel once a week, I sing in a choir, adore listening to audiobooks and love exploring historic cities. I also love booking culinary experiences and exploring good wines.
✨ What have you always wanted to do but never done?
I’ve always wanted to see a live volcano up close (well at a safe distance). I’ve always been fascinated by these natural wonders.
