Radiology Faculty Position, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität - LMU Munich, Germany

The Clinic of Small Animals invites qualified individuals to apply for a faculty position (“Oberarzt/Oberärztin”) in Radiology. The position is available as of September 1^st, 2023, or by negotiation.

The successful applicant will have a leading position in the radiology service. The Clinic of Small Animals is a university veterinary teaching hospital specialized in dogs and cats with cutting edge medical equipment. The successful applicant will enjoy a wealth of opportunities in providing clinical service in a very active academic teaching hospital, and in pursuing clinical research in a highly competitive environment. Two Schools of Medicine (University of Munich (LMU) and Technical University of Munich (TUM)) are close by with plenty of opportunities for collaborative research. Primary responsibilities of the successful candidate include clinical service, research, and teaching. Therefore, we offer an attractive work environment with dedicated time for research and teaching and various opportunities to present research projects at international congresses.

As a university veterinary teaching hospital, we provide a wide range of various diagnostic imaging cases in cats and dogs with concurrent teaching of students, research assistants, and residents. Independent work is absolute standard. Training, teaching, and supervision of students, research assistants and residents of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) is an important part of the responsibilities. Development of research projects and supervision of doctoral students give the opportunity to perform high-quality research and educate the next veterinary generation.

Our radiology service is equipped according to current veterinary standards and offers state-of-the-art imaging diagnostics. This includes modern digital radiography (Siemens Luminos dRF Max), ultrasound (GE LOGIQ E9), CT (Siemens Somatom Definition AS with automatic contrast medium application MEDRAD® Stellant), MRT (Siemens Magnetom Symphony 1,5T). Service responsibilities include clinical case management, communication with other disciplines, and consultation with referring veterinarians. We expect strong commitment to excellence in research and participation in the continuing education program of the clinic. External grant acquisition and supervision of graduate students is encouraged and supported. The candidate will be actively involved in our certified ECVDI residency program.

Candidates should have completed a veterinary degree. Diplomate status of the Diplomate of European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) is preferred, but board-eligible with radiation certificate individuals will be considered.

The Veterinary Faculty of the LMU is situated in the very centre of Munich next to the beautiful English Garden, fabulous restaurants and beergardens and numerous cultural avenues (museums, festivals, theatres, opera). Munich is very close to the Alps as well as to several beautiful lakes. The region provides easy access to numerous outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing, skiing, and biking.

Over the past few years, the Veterinary Faculty in Munich has undergone a steady growth in terms of expertise in small animal medicine, facilities, caseload, clinical research, clinical teaching, and residency programs.
