The Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University, Belgium is looking for a small animal radiologist to engender our imaging team for a 2-year fixed-term position. The position can be either part-time (40%-80%) or full-time. The employment will start as soon as (a) suitable candidate(s) is/are found.
Profile
You hold a Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine. You are a small animal veterinary radiologist with a background of advanced training, clinical experience and competence in small animal diagnostic imaging. Preferably, you obtained board certification or eligibility by the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) or American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR). Teaching experience as well as contribution to and scientific output of previous research activities are of added value.
Furthermore, you value a collegial team atmosphere and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to constructively collaborate with others.
Dutch is the official language at Ghent University, but communication in the medical imaging clinic is in English.
Responsibilities
Your assignment involves 80% of clinical and teaching tasks and 20% of research activities. You will perform imaging studies in the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, while being involved in the clinical teaching of Master students in Veterinary Medicine, rotating interns as well as ECVDI residents. You must provide excellent health care to the patients, in close collaboration with the other specialists and veterinarians of the Small Animal Teaching Hospital.
The percentage of appointment, percentage dedicated to research activities and the possibility to also be involved in large animals imaging are open for discussion.
Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Ghent University
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University is located next to the beautiful town of Ghent, and 30 minutes from Brugge, Antwerp and Brussels.
The Small Animal Teaching Hospital is well-equipped (arthroscopy (nanoscopy), laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, fluoroscopy, radiography, ultrasonography, CT, MRI, scintigraphy, …) and the actual team includes dedicated Diplomates in surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation, emergency and critical care, anaesthesiology, internal medicine, neurology, cardiology, medical imaging, dermatology, nutrition, reproduction, behaviour, ophthalmology, and stomatology. We have approved residency-training programs for most all the above-mentioned. There is also a team of rotating interns, a few specific interns, and a team of after-hours emergency vets. The caseload for small animals is around 13,000 cases a year.
Department of Medical Imaging, Ghent University
The diagnostic imaging section at Ghent University currently employs five board-certified radiologists. All radiologists have training in all modalities and diverse research interests. The section currently has one small animal DR room, one large animal DR room, ultrasound machines, a 320 slice CT scanner (for both small and large animals, including standing horses) a low-field MRI scanner (for both small and large animals) and a gamma camera for nuclear imaging (only for small animals).

What can we offer?
We can offer a part-time to full-time position as a Small Animal Radiologist in a vibrant small animal clinic and faculty. This is a two-year, fixed-term position, where the possibility of an extension will depend on whether funding is available in the future.
