Message from the President
This will be the final newsletter of 2025 and I wanted to take the opportunity to wish all College members the very best for Christmas and the new-year.
A special thank you to all the committees that serve the College and keep it running on solid ground. Just now after the Summer Board meeting of the Executive Committee and the annual general meeting I have been in contact with all of our committees to give feedback on their activities and address issues they may raise.
Welcome news is that the committee set up to handle grants has initiated an application procedure, received applications and will soon be distributing grants to successful applicants. These support activities that in various ways further the aims of the College. This is the first time the College has been in a position to do this and it is very gratifying to see the extent of interest in these new grants.
At this time of year too the College is busy with an activity that is as old as the College, namely the preparation of examinations, I wish the residents taking examinations in 2026 the very best of luck in the final stages of their preparations.

President, ECVDI
IVRA 2026
As previously announced, the IVRA 2026 Congress will be held in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 12th to 16th, 2026.
We would like to inform all participants that the deadline for abstract submission is February 28th, 2026.
All updated information is available on the official congress website:
https://orbit-cs.net/ivra2026/index.html
During the congress, the J. Kevin Kealy Award will also be presented. Established in 2003 in honor of Emeritus Professor J. Kevin Kealy, organizer of the first IVRA meeting, first President of the Association, and Honorary Member, the award will be given to a Member who has made substantial published contributions to the field of veterinary radiology. Association Members are invited to submit nominations following the guidelines provided by the IVRA Board.
Finally, the IVRA Board is currently collecting applications to host the IVRA 2029 Congress. All interested Members are encouraged to contact the IVRA President to collaborate on developing a proposal for an outstanding 2029 Congress.
Stay tuned: further updates on the program, speakers, and registration will be communicated soon.
Call for Nominations - Resident Committee
Dear ECVDI Residents,
We are looking for two residents to join the Resident Committee to replace the outgoing members.
As you may be aware, the Resident Committee is a completely resident-led committee where you can discuss any issues or concerns or positive feedback you would like to give to the Board. The committee will be completely shaped by the residents.
If you are interested or would like to nominate someone for the committee, please send nominations to adminecvdi@ecvdi.eu by January 31st 2026.
✨ Exciting News from the Media Committee! ✨
Starting in 2026, the Media Committee will launch a new initiative to bring more life on to our website: every three months, an interesting diagnostic imaging case will be published on our website.
What to expect:
- Each case will highlight interesting and unusual findings, carefully selected to encourage discussion and learning.
- Cases will be confirmed through FNA, histology, pathology, surgery, or exclusion, ensuring accuracy and educational value.
- Some cases may feel routine to part of our community, but we believe they will be new and interesting to others.
Professional attitude:
- We recognize that sharing cases can feel scary in this highly trained community. That’s why we encourage all comments to be respectful, constructive, and supportive—fostering a safe environment for learning and exchange.
- We trust that our community will uphold professional standards by refraining from downloading or using cases or images without the explicit permission of their authors.
Get involved
Preparing cases takes time and dedication, and we warmly invite fellow diplomates to contribute their own cases. Your participation will enrich this initiative and strengthen our collective knowledge. A document outlining the standard format for submitting cases to the Media Committee for review will be prepared and made available on the website.
Stay tuned — the first case drops in early 2026!

Request for Clinical Technique Data for Cholecystocentesis Publication
Dear colleagues,
I am writing to request your participation in a short data-gathering survey as part of a project that will form the basis of an upcoming publication on cholecystocentesis technique.
Although cholecystocentesis is a commonly performed procedure, there appears to be significant variation in how it is carried out across clinicians and institutions. Over the course of my 17 years performing this technique, I have frequently encountered differing procedural approaches, often without a documented rationale or evidence-based justification. Preliminary literature review—including veterinary and human medical sources—has revealed a similar lack of consensus or standardization.
To better understand current clinical practice, I am collecting anonymised, real-world data on how cholecystocentesis is performed by practitioners at our institution and beyond. The aim of this survey is not to assess “correctness” or compare outcomes, but simply to document the range of techniques currently in use. This information will contribute to a descriptive analysis intended to clarify common practices, highlight variability, and identify areas where further research or standardisation may be beneficial.
I would be extremely grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete the brief poll linked below. Your responses will be entirely anonymous, and the compiled data will be used solely for the purposes of this publication.
Your contribution is invaluable to ensuring that the final work accurately reflects real-world practice.
Thank you very much for your time and support of this project.
