Message from the President

The theoretical and practical examinations took place as usual at the end of January.  Congratulations to all those who were successful in these.

The theoretical (part one) exam candidates sat from their respective exam centres.  The successful candidates are listed below, and to them I extend my congratulations.  For you, success is an irreversible step on your journey to becoming a Diplomate.

The successful candidates for the theoretical examination were:

Large Animal:

Adam Northwood, Connie Bowkett-Pritchard

Small Animal:

Lucia Atkinson, Ana Bach, Manuela Baldinetti, Sophie Bellekom, Rémi Bellon, Sam Boulton, Elsbeth Burgers, Foteini Chrysanthakopoulou, Fabrice Conchou, Dario Costanza, Eleonora D’Inecco, Jean Desbordes, Romi Dittmann, Elsa Estoueigt, Madeline Forissier, Chloé François, Sonia Gonzaléz Rellán, Nick Goody, Jinjing He, Monika Hoppe, Eva Ingelaere, Wiktoria Jamont, Coleen Jones, Réjane Kerbrat-Copy, Stefan Kohl, Laura Librán Ferreira, Vincent Mariaud, Boris Masnov, Jessica Milne, Caterina Nanni, Maria Navarro Carrillo, Linda Negro, Charlotte, Nix, Elsa Penel, Simone Perfetti, Diego Pulido, Sophia Roumelioti, Anders Schrøder, Chris Staudinger, Isabelle, Tan, Marta Villuendas, Anna Vondra

For the successful candidates in the practical examination I hope you find working environments which allow you to gain in experience and knowledge. Our specialization is constantly evolving, feeding off advances led by our own Diplomates, and by others who contribute to our science.  Quickly your role will have changed from a candidate hoping to fulfil the requirements of the College to being a Diplomate of the College and a representative of our specialization.  I encourage you to contribute to the workings of our College, and to the science and clinical practice of our specialization.

The successful candidates for the part practical (certifying) examination were:

Large Animal:

Owen Fletcher, Elisabetta Giorio, Ellen Law, Anna Pelli, Linda Rutigliano

Small Animal:

Elisabeth Ball, Carli Bentley, Magdalena Brzozowska, Juliette Burg-Personnaz, Lea Carish, Tatjana Chan, Philippe Colombe, Giulia Dalla Serra, Moniek Dekkers, Stuart Eddy, Joy Einwaller, Nicoletta Fantaconi, Beatrice Gianni, Magdalena Gracz, Florian Graf, Isabella Guarnera, Bethany Guy, Carolina Hamm Vinga, Iris Hummel, Ingrid Isaac, Kevin Kang, Faye Kormpou, Ohad Mann, Roberto Marazzi, Chiara Massarenti, Maria Miguel Garces, Dario Nappo, Thomas Natsiopoulos, Clara Pagá, Anna Palomares, Carles Planos Padrós, Maria Prüllage, Jonathan Raue, Inês Rei, Riccardo Rossi, Martina Rosto, Laura Ruiz de Alejos, Domenico Sainato, Julien Sapet, Anna Vincek, Bas Wetzels, Mason White

We should be grateful to all involved.  These include the Examination Director and Examination Committees who created the exam and evaluated the candidates; they deserve a special thanks for their hard work.   But our certifying process is a product of the work of many College committees as they set study guides, ensure exam quality, check credentials, assist in training and examination preparation through RIVDI events, and support resident welfare. We should be grateful to all of these and to the residency directors and supervisors who work with our residents daily.

My thanks go to Catherine Barclay who is on the front line coordinating these activities and manages to keep all parties in contact and informed. We are lucky also to have the continued examination support of Rob Malinowski who through his technical assistance and skill in providing examination metrics allows us to have a well-documented and validated examination procedure.   The Radiology Department of the Veterinary University of Zurich hosted the practical examination as has been the practice for many years now. Again we are grateful.

This year, as is often the case, some candidates will have to resit the theoretical examination.  To those individuals I encourage you to keep your spirits up.  Some of the most able radiologists and active members of our College are individuals who have taken repeated exam sittings on their path to become Diplomates.

Winter Board Meeting

Next week we will hold the Winter Executive Board Meeting. I have mentioned some of our committees above with respect to the examination but other committees for example the AI Committee, Selection Committee, to name just two are vital to ensure the continued success of the College.  All will be contributing to the meeting which will be on online. Each of the College Committees reports on their activities and communicate any needs or developments that they foresee.  The outcome often results in changes that are proposed to the members, perhaps as bylaw alterations or additions that are ultimately put to a vote.

I will be presenting a draft strategic plan for the College at the Board meeting and this will be part of my report to members at our next Annual General Meeting which will take place this year in the UK.  More information of course will follow in that regard.

ECVDI Grant Fund

The first round of the new grant fund applications was completed at the end of 2025 following the call for applications at the AGM. We received many very worthy applications highlighting the many varied activities of college members with applications for research, travel and presentations, outreach work and furthering individual development.

While we would have loved to fund all the applications we received the committee did have to whittle the applications down and following the review there were 17 total successful applications with the successful and unsuccessful applications all notified by the end of December. Congratulations to all the successful applicants!

Now that the first year has been completed we will be making a second call for applications later in the year with applications in October 2026 and we will be publishing some guidance and an example of an application later this year to help guide future applications and we will look forward to round 2!

As always a huge thanks to all the committee members for getting this off the ground this year.

Chair, ECVDI Grant Fund Commmittee
