The Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) program consists of seven semesters of preclinical studies on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean and one year of clinical training at affiliated AVMA-accredited veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States and abroad. The primary focus of RUSVM is the education of students whose goal is to practice veterinary medicine mainly in North America and beyond. Scientific discovery is another important focal point for the University.

Position Overview:

At Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, we strive to make a difference to our students and to our community every day. As such, we are partnering with IDEXX Telemedicine to offer a unique opportunity.

We are seeking a mission driven Diagnostic Imaging professional to join our team. This unique position will be located on our campus on the beautiful island of St Kitts and will deliver hands on diagnostic imaging education to our 3 days a week during each of our 3 annual semesters, and deliver Telemedicine Consulting Interpretations to IDEXX customers 2 days a week for the length of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Clinical Sciences invites applications to join our Diagnostic Imaging teaching team. The focus of the position is on teaching our students the basics of Diagnostic Imaging on a didactic level and during hands on laboratory sessions. The main diagnostic imaging course is currently a 4 credit course with laboratory sessions. The candidate will also participate in other didactic courses as appropriate for the expertise of the applicant and in pre-clinical laboratory experiences (essential veterinary skills laboratories). An emphasis on innovative teaching methods and delivery is encouraged.

The faculty member will also be involved in clinical cases throughout the University by providing service and via rounds with other team members. The caseload presented to our on-campus Community Practice primarily consists of dogs and cats with a small representation of exotic species such as birds, monkeys and tortoises. In addition, the University provides healthcare to approximately 200 large animals that reside on campus. RUSVM is equipped with digital radiography and PACS systems. Workstations are positioned throughout the Community Practice for use by students, staff, and clinicians, in rounds or special procedures rooms. Ultrasound services are provided through the Community Practice. There is a Diagnostic Imaging student laboratory with sixty viewing workstations and at least two ultrasound machines.

 

The candidate is encouraged to have a research focus that can be supported by intra and extramural grant funding. Engagement in service activities, including faculty meetings, assigned committees and designated office hours is expected. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Divisional Head and Department Head, as needed.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A veterinary degree with either board certification by the ACVR, eligibility for board certification, Diplomate status in the ECVDI, or an equivalent specialty certification is required.

  • Extensive clinical experience in U.S., Canada, or an equivalent health care system and a desire to teach and mentor veterinary students are required.

  • A successful applicant will be expected to possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Salary is very competitive with US based universities and there is no income tax in St. Kitts which could result in a large increase to your net salary. As an expatriate, you may still be responsible to report income in your home country. Additional benefits include a significant relocation and repatriation package, health insurance, generous annual continuous education budget and annual travel benefit, geographical living allowance to offset cost of living differences, retirement match (up to 6% of your salary) and 7 weeks paid leave between semesters.
