The Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) program consists of seven semesters of preclinical studies on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean and one year of clinical training at affiliated AVMA-accredited veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States and abroad. The primary focus of RUSVM is the education of students whose goal is to practice veterinary medicine mainly in North America and beyond. Scientific discovery is another important focal point for the University.

Position Overview:

At Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, we strive to make a difference to our students and to our community every day. We are seeking a mission driven Diagnostic Imaging professional to join our team either full time or part time. This unique position will be located on our campus on the beautiful island of St Kitts and will deliver hands on diagnostic imaging education to our DVM students. A part time position would leave time available for external remote opportunities such as teleradiology.  We are happy to introduce you to representatives from IDEXX to learn about teleradiology possibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Clinical Sciences invites applications to join our Diagnostic Imaging teaching team which includes one other full time position and one regular part time locum. The focus of the position is on teaching our students the basics of Diagnostic Imaging on a didactic level and during hands on laboratory sessions. The main diagnostic imaging course is currently a 4 credit course with laboratory sessions. An emphasis on innovative teaching methods and delivery is encouraged.  The faculty member may also be involved in clinical cases throughout the University time permitting. The caseload presented to our on-campus Community Practice primarily consists of dogs and cats with a small representation of exotic species such as birds, monkeys and tortoises. In addition, the University provides healthcare to approximately 200 large animals that reside on campus. RUSVM is equipped with digital radiography and PACS systems. Workstations are positioned throughout the Community Practice for use by students, staff, and clinicians, in rounds or special procedures rooms. Ultrasound services are provided by another colleague through the Community Practice. There is a Diagnostic Imaging student laboratory with sixty viewing workstations and at least two ultrasound machines.

The candidate is encouraged to have a research focus that can be supported by intra and extramural grant funding.  Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Divisional Head and Department Head, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A veterinary degree with either board certification by the ACVR, eligibility for board certification, Diplomate status in the ECVDI, or an equivalent specialty certification is required.
  • Extensive clinical experience in U.S., Canada, EU, UK or an equivalent health care system and a desire to teach and mentor veterinary students are required.
  • A successful applicant will be expected to possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Benefits:

Salary is very competitive with US based universities and there is no income tax in St. Kitts which could result in a large increase to your net salary. As an expatriate, you may still be responsible to report income in your home country. Additional benefits include a significant relocation and repatriation package, health insurance, generous annual continuous education budget and annual travel benefit, geographical living allowance to offset cost of living differences, retirement match (up to 6% of your salary) and 7 weeks paid leave between semesters.
