FACULTY OF HEALTH AND LIFE SCIENCES

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE

DEPARTMENT OF SMALL ANIMAL CLINICAL SCIENCE (Small Animal Teaching Hospital), invites applications for a full-time teaching/research and clinical position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Radiation Oncology (Grade 8/9).

The University of Liverpool School of Veterinary Science, Department of Small Animal Clinical Science (Small Animal Teaching Hospital), invites applications for a full-time teaching/research and clinical position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Radiation Oncology (Grade 8/9).

Liverpool was the first veterinary school in the UK to be part of a University, and has always been a leading education provider for the vets of the future. The University of Liverpool Small Animal Teaching Hospital (SATH), based at Leahurst Campus on the Wirral Peninsula, is a busy multidisciplinary referral and teaching hospital, seeing over 12,000 appointments per year, and has an annual turnover of £8 million. The SATH is an ECVIM approved training centre in cardiology, internal medicine and oncology, and has European College approved residency programmes in imaging, neurology, dermatology, surgery and anaesthesia. There is excellent multidisciplinary support from colleagues in neurology, soft tissue, imaging, internal medicine, orthopaedics and anaesthesia. The caseload is large and diverse.

There are currently three senior oncologists (including the HoS), all of whom hold the ECVIM Diploma (plus this post and a radiation oncology post in recruitment; one is on research leave), supported by four residents, two service specific nurses and two therapeutic radiographers. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic clinical team with state-of-the-art facilities, which include state-of-the-art imaging and theatres, a dedicated chemotherapy suite, electrochemotherapy and radiotherapy (the linear accelerator is a Varian VitalBeam, installed in 2017; planning is with Eclipse), and there is excellent multidisciplinary support.

You will be MRCVS and either ECVIM or ECVDI with Add Rad Oncol, or ACVR board certified, or eligible. The successful candidate will join an established comprehensive oncology service dedicated to teaching, clinical and basic science research, and the highest quality of patient care. This post gives the successful applicant an exciting opportunity to take part in the development and running of the Small Animal Radiation Oncology unit in modern facilities with excellent multidisciplinary support. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Development and running of the radiation oncology unit
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Collaboration on research projects, or other activities relating to oncology or education.
  • Key role in a busy referral oncology service.

Salary : £42,149 - £53,348 G8 (Grade 8) £54,944 - £67,538 G9 (Grade 9), plus attractive CPD, OOH and pension package. A generous market supplement is provided to Diploma Holders.

Closing Date: 07-Feb-2022 23:30; the post is available from 1st April 2022.
