University College Dublin (UCD) Veterinary School has a four-year Small Animal Track Diagnostic Imaging Residency position to be filled starting by May 1st 2024. The successful applicant will be enrolled in the residency training programme that focusses on preparing for board certification by the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) while concurrently enrolled in a research based professional doctorate (Doctorate in Veterinary Medical Specialisation programme- DVMS). Residents get 12 weeks off clinics for study/ research and four weeks holiday each year.
The Diagnostic Imaging unit is staffed by three full-time and two part-time radiologists, two other DI residents, two full-time radiographers and a radiology intern. In house training in clinical radiology, (both large and small animal), ultrasonography, echocardiography, CT and MRI is included in the residency programme. Clinical research projects and academic course work associated with the DVMS is also undertaken. UCD is the largest university in Ireland, and the UCD veterinary hospital is based on the main university campus in Dublin.
On-site imaging equipment includes: Fixed small animal (Siemens Axiom Aristos DR) and adjacent large animal (Siemens Vertix Vet, Optitop X-ray tube) radiography rooms, 2 HF Portable x-ray machines, two portable Cuattro wireless DR systems, CR system and Ziehm vision fluoroscopy. Ultrasonographic equipment includes a GE Logic 9, GE Vivid 9 and three other portable ultrasound machines. A 16/32-slice CT unit (Siemens Somaton scope) on a sliding gantry and a 1.5T MRI GE Signa Artist complete the on-site equipment.
Qualifications required: Applicants must have a veterinary degree that is registerable by the Veterinary Council of Ireland (vci.ie) and have a minimum of two years veterinary experience or an internship preferably with an imaging component.
