The Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine College includes four biomedical science departments—microbiology and molecular genetics, pathobiology and diagnostic investigation, pharmacology and toxicology, and physiology; two clinical departments—large-animal clinical sciences and small-animal clinical sciences; two service units—the Veterinary Medical Center and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory; and several research centers. In addition to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program, the College also offers certificate and bachelor's degree programs in veterinary nursing, as well as advanced degree (master's and doctor of philosophy) programs.
The College of Veterinary Medicine is fortunate to have an outstanding faculty, all of whom hold the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and/or the doctor of philosophy degree. Nearly all of the specialty boards recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association are represented on the faculty. Many of these faculty members are leaders in their fields, both nationally and internationally.
Michigan State has a long-standing commitment to equal opportunity, affirmative action, and multiculturalism. The College of Veterinary Medicine has attained national recognition for its leadership in programs for the encouragement of underrepresented groups at the preprofessional, professional, and advanced studies levels, as well as for increased diversity in its faculty.
The Diagnostic Imaging Service at MSU’s Veterinary Medical Center completes over 12,000 small and large animal cases a year, providing both diversity and opportunity for specialization within species or diagnostic imaging modalities. Our Imaging team is currently staffed by two part-time radiologists, a Radiology Service Manager, a PACS administrator, one MRI technologist, four veterinary technicians, 3 radiographers, 1 sonographer, and two veterinary assistants. This service is, and will continue to be, supplemented with teleradiologist services to help manage the day-to-day caseload and provide time for teaching, research, and/or outreach avenues for onsite faculty. There is no on-call for this position and there is flexibility with the time needed to be on-site. The department houses a large bore 1.5T Siemens MRI, 64-slice GE CT, scintigraphy suite with gamma camera, GE digital Interventional Fluoroscopy suite and mobile GE C-Arm unit, 2 Canon and 1 GE ultrasound units, 2 Canon and 1 Konica small animal radiology suites, one Canon large animal radiology suite and several mobile radiography units.
